Daily at 11.30am and 2.30pm, with additional tour at 3.30pm on Saturdays and

This tour will run daily at 11.30am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm in July and August.

Dead Interesting Tour

Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays (6th August and 29th October 2018) at 1pm.

O’Connell Tower opening hours and prices:
The Tower is currently open from 1-3pm and will be open from 10am-5pm from Friday 22nd June 2018.

GENERAL HISTORY TOUR
Interactive exhibitions, dramatic re-enactments and daily walking tours visiting many of the renowned figures that shaped Ireland including Charles Stewart Parnell, Roger Casement, Eamon De Valera, Michael Collins, Constance Markievicz, Brendan Behan, Luke Kelly and Daniel O’Connell. A unique opportunity to gain an understanding of Ireland’s complex and fascinating history. Visit inside Daniel O’Connell’s Celtic Romantic designed Crypt and iconic tower, the tallest in Ireland, forms part of the tour.

 

“DEAD INTERESTING” TOUR AT GLASNEVIN
The new tour of Glasnevin Cemetery will give an alternative view of the varied heritage that Ireland’s largest cemetery holds and the history within its walls.  Visitors will learn of its sculpture, symbolism, architecture, art, sporting heroes, horticulture, natural life and much more.  They will visit the graves and hear the stories of little known figures such as;

  • Maria Higgins, a woman who died once yet was buried twice in Glasnevin;
  • An Irish chaplain who witnessed the liberation of Bergen Belsen concentration camp;
  • The last Irish winner of Wimbledon;
  • The man who cut the ribbon and opened Sydney Harbour Bridge when he wasn’t meant to;
  • The vault that held secrets during the Irish War of Independence;
  • And many more.

A tour that is for those both well acquainted with the cemetery and those who have never visited before, the secret history of Ireland’s most well-known.

THE O’CONNELL TOWER
198 steps to breath taking views of Dublin, the tower opened to the public for the first time since it was destroyed by a bomb in 1971. It is Ireland’s tallest round tower and stands at 180 feet. Built in 1854, it is the tombstone of the great liberator, Daniel O’Connell, who lies in an ornately decorated crypt at the base of the tower.
