The Nuremore House was built in the late 1890’s and was then owned by the McCall family. In 1904 Mr McCall was one of the most prominent business men in County Monaghan. He owned Carrickmacross’ major farmer’s suppliers, selling grain, animal feed and agricultural ironmongery. He was the town’s prime auctioneer, and also owned its ancestral market rights, which gave him a commission on all animal sales in the local market. They had five children, with their son Jim McCall inheriting the family business.  But poor Jim had no business sense and managed to squander the family fortunes. The feed business was sold to Lough Egish Co-op. The house was sold to the Flynn family, and became Nuremore House Hotel in 1962.Opened as a hotel by James and Rose Flynn in 1962, The Flynns ran the hotel until 1970 before their daughter Julie, and her husband Gerry Gilhooly took it over. Under their management, the orginal country house extended to include 72 bedrooms, a leisure complex, a conference and events centre and an 18 hole championship golf course.
