The Station House Hotel, in Kilmessan, Co. Meath is a charming country house hotel, located in the heart of the Boyne Valley Drive and with a lovely history.

Once a passenger train station, The Station House Hotel is one of Irelands best kept secrets. Tucked away in the quaint village of Kilmessan, in the heart of the acclaimed Boyne Valley Drive and Ireland’s Ancient East, the original station buildings now sit on twelve acres of manicured gardens and woodlands, listed on the Boyne Valley Garden Trail, and have been welcoming guests since 1983.

In the 1900’s the hotel was a train station serving as a livery stop for counties Meath and Westmeath. At one end was a turntable and gateway making it a turn-point for trains returning to Dublin, now fondly referred to as The Turntable and hosting magical outdoor wedding ceremonies, pre-dinner drink receptions and other bespoke events.

At the other end of the grounds stood the original railway signal box, now converted into the truly unique, two room Signal Suite. Nestled between these two points stood the main station building which now houses the award winning Signal Restaurant and Platform Bar, and across from this, the original engine room and work-shop, lovingly converted by the Slattery’s into the Carriage Suite.

The last passenger train ran in December 1947, and Chris and Thelma Slattery bought the Station House in 1981. Along with arrival of their fifth child, they began welcoming guests in 1983 by starting a small guesthouse and soon after, launched the Signal Restaurant in the main station building on Easter Saturday, 1984, with a truly memorable night! Conversion of the Carriage Suite followed in the year 2000, hosting weddings, birthday parties, conferences and other events ever since.

The family have preserved all the original remains of the old station properties and fixtures that stood on their arrival in 1981, including the railway safe which was made by Milners Safe Company Ltd., London & Liverpool, fireplaces, and the train line platforms which stand outside the front door of the hotel.

Here, guests enjoy the full feeling of a country escape all year-round, allowing them to completely switch off and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We also offer free high speed wifi throughout the hotel, free car-parking, and all bedrooms are en suite and tastefully decorated, giving a warm and homely feel to anyone travelling with family, friends or for business.
